The Huntsman's Prey, sneak peek part 1

AS I'm nearing completion of this book, I've decided to start sharing some sneak peeks, because I always think those things are so much fun! :D

In this book you'll find some familiar faces, Hatter and Alice, but I've also introduced some new ones that you should know, but they're quite different from the stories you've read of them before. I am having a BLAST writing this book, it's been so much fun getting back into Wonderland, made me realize just how much I missed the absolute oddity of this place. So without further ado, one of my favorite paragraphs so far!

Back at the bar an obscenely large man with folds upon folds for a neck, shook his head. Causing his rolls to quiver. Something about the way the man moved, in a waddling up and down sort of motion had Aeric thinking of a walrus—that and the way his front two teeth curved out of his swollen pink lips like curled tusks. Adjusting his black frock coat, he snorted. “Who invited the mundane?”

Hmm….. I wonder who that is? ;) Yes, I'm having way too much fun with this book, and hopefully that means you guys will too!

Happy hump day!

BEHOLD… the imp

Rumpelstiltskin has never looked this good. I dunno gals and guys, I may just have to keep this bad boy to myself. The Huntsman is good, but I'm a little afraid this imp might just be stealing the show. Or maybe just my heart. :p

;)

Marie

I just couldn't take it!!

I love Rumpelstiltskin just way too much, and realized, duh Marie!!! He's perfect for one of the bad girls. He is getting his own story, and it's gonna be with Gerard and Betty's daughter Shayera! I've already outlined the story, it's called Rumple's Prize, book 2 of the Dark Princess Saga!

I CANNOT wait to show you the cover art for that one!! ;)

Hugs and love,
~Marie

UPDATE ALERT

Huntsman is now at 50% done and can I just say… I introduced a new character. Hubba hubba… meet Rumpelstiltskin.

What, he doesn't look impish enough for you??

Oh, well trust me he totally is. He just so happens to come in a prettier package is all. ;)

And yes, he does ride a motorcycle in Kingdom and no, he doesn't care that it's loud or others may not like it. He's so villainous I may just have to write him his own story one day. I'm crushing just a wee bit right now, can you tell? ;)

Happy reading!

After much thought and consideration

This is my release schedule. Of course, all dependent on real life not mucking around with my plans as it often wants to do. *shakes fist*

Thank you to everyone who chimed in on the informal poll. I took everything into consideration. So, I guess you should all know I've been working (simultaneously *I know grimace*) on all 4 books at once. Which is something I often do because I must seriously have ADD since it's so hard for me to stay focused on one world for too long. But in the spirit of learning to stay more focused in 2014 here is my tentative (stressing that word here) release schedule.

Feb~ The Huntsman's Prey
Mar~Jaime and Tor (still don't have a working title for that one)
April~All Hallows Night
Jun~ Death's Redemption (sequel to Death's Lover)
July 31~Howlers Moon

(Because Pandora is a trilogy I plan to immediately set to work on the final book of the series: Howlers Moon right after releasing AHN) That one will likely release at the end of July because Death's Redemption is being put out by a NY publishing house contractually I'm not allowed to release anything a month prior or month after that release. Which is why the end of July release of Pandora.)

The rest of 2014 will be devoted to releasing the rest of the Dark Princess novels. There were five bad boys of Kingdom novels, there will be five Dark Princesses too)

So how's that look for you guys? Hope it works for you, I'm thinking it works for me. :D

Again, this is all tentative. I cannot control real life and things do happen that put me off my well intended path, but barring anything grave or unforeseen there is my release schedule. I'm doing this here because so often I get emails asking when this or that book is going to be released… so this is me letting all you wonderful people out there know what's up in the world of moi! :)

Happy reading,
~Marie

Moon's Flower UPDATE

Moon's Flower is now 95% done!!! Only 4k words left to write and then it'll be going to the editor. *g*

Favorite line of the day:

“The reasons are my own. As to whether she deserves it, you know that she does. A fairy is never to know a man, it is treason. The mere fact that she knew your man,” she let that word dangle for a bit, just to drive her point home, “is unpardonable.”

Oh the intrigue, it kills…. LOL

Happy reading my Kingdom maniacs,
~Marie

KINGDOM IS BACK!

Once upon a time in a land far, far away lived a fairy. A beautiful, wild creature who dared to fall in love with the Man in the Moon...

Did you guys know I'm writing another Kingdom novella? And not only that, but that it'll be ready by Dec. 7? GASP!! I know, I know what you're thinking??? KINGDOM, SQUEAK, FLAIL, FLUTTER?!?! I THOUGHT MARIE WASN'T WRITING ANYMORE KINGDOM STORIES...

Of course I am! I haven't forgotten my first love, fairy tales, or the wonderful, zany people who inhabit the world of madness and mayhem. I'm hard at work on this novella right now and can you believe that it's 70% done! In fact, in just a few short days I will be doing a grand cover reveal for the book. I think you're all gonna love it, I know I do! Continue to check out my blog for further updates or my twitter @mariehallwrites for teaser lines from the book. I can tell you that this is turning out to be one of my absolute favorites of the bunch. I think you're going to just adore Jericho. Also, there's a big, BIG surprise in this book and it involves one of your favorite Kingdom characters. I'm not saying who, you'll just have to wait and see. *devilish grin* But for now, since I love you all so much…

Here is one of my favorite scenes of the book:

“I’ve got magic too,” he said, “do you want to see it?”

“Yes, of course!” She bobbed her head.

Raising his hands, he began pulling at the air and at first she wasn’t sure what she was supposed to be seeing, or if he was even doing anything.

But then suddenly all the light that came from the glow worms began to spiral toward them, drawing into a tight band of glistening light.

Laughing, she covered her mouth and watched as he then began to wave his fingers through the air and the light that’d been bolted together, was now turning into glimmers of glitter and he was forming something.

She cocked her head, unsure of what that something was, but as the glow began to take shape, she realized it was a bed.

Their glittering, golden mattress awaited…

ALSO...

for you Hatter lovers out there, a second big surprise! Dec. 1, I along with many other fantastic writers of fairy tales (RaShelle Workman, Chanda Hahn, and Cameron Jace) will be releasing a fractured fairy tale boxed set. But here's the best part… not only will it be .99 for the entire collection (a steal in and of itself) it will feature a new Hatter short story (Hatter's Treasure)! It is always so much fun to get back into the madness that is the Hatter's mind. I'll be sending out another newsletter on release day!

Happy reading!

ZOMBIES!!!

So continuing on with my favorite list of books, I'm heading into ZOMBIES! Num, num, num… I'm giving this one its own category because well, it's all about those dead but not quite dead baddies. And make sure to read beyond the blurb because I'm also giving my personal thoughts on each book!

Here are my personal favorites in no particular order.

Waking Up Dead (End of Days Love Story)

You know your life has hit rock bottom when you’re living off cooked rats and showering once every few months—if you’re lucky. But for Jackson Hart things are about to get a whole lot worse. When her best friend, Tye, disappears hunting for food, kick-ass Jackson’s ‘head south to safety’ plan looks like it’s dead before it’s even begun. But then she meets ex-mechanic Luke Granger, who takes her to his bunker, feeds her with non-rat based food, and offers her protection against the zombie hordes—not that she needs it. She knows how to use a machete and isn’t afraid to.

Jackson was tempted to stay in the city with her rescuer. Food, shampoo and the possibility of finally getting laid, what more could she ask for? But the flesh eaters are getting smarter and the bunker is compromised, so Jackson and Luke have no choice but to make the journey south.
Luke and Jackson team up to find other humans in a road-trip romance for the ages. They travel for thousands of miles with zombies shadowing their every move. They must utilize every resource at their disposal…and then some. On the way, they discover that even if flesh eating zombies are knocking down their door, there’s always time for sex and even love.

Marie's Thoughts: I just read this one so I'm still sort of buzzing off it. But I absolutely loved this book and hate that it's not getting more love. It's a fabulous book, if you love The Walking Dead and wish that Daryl would just get it on with somebody already (LOL) you'll love this one.

Taking on the Dead Annie Walls

Life for Kansas was perfect until the day the world changed.

She has been hiding out for four years in solitude. It's the only way to survive. The only way not to draw the living dead. Helping a small group of people, she learns the new world might not be what she assumes. Venturing out of her refuge and comfort zone, she meets Rudy, who helps her find a greater purpose. She realizes that the world has moved on without her. Only it's not what she expects. Her knowledge of the living dead grows and only makes her more curious as humanity continues to hang on by a thread. While on her search for answers she finds comfort in new friendships and love, but her past seems as if it will haunt her forever.

Kansas takes it upon herself to help other survivors, which would be easy if the famished were the only obstacles.

In a trilogy plot thick with twists and turns, this adult dark fantasy is emotional as much as it is horrifyingly gripping.

This book contains graphic violence, intense language, sexual situations, drug use, and is intended for a mature audience.

Marie's Thoughts: Whoa, what a great writer. I first learned about Annie Walls from the zombie anthology Darlings of Decay. I was confused reading her story a little because I didn't realize at the time the short story was based on the characters created in this world. But the strength of her prose was such that I had to go sourcing for more of her work and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I LOVED this book. Kansas is one kick butt heroine and I just love her. And while I think that Rudy's name is kinda wimpy, he's hot, so I can overlook it. :p This is an excellent start to a very promising series. Book 2 is out already, though I confess I haven't gotten to it yet.

Warm Bodies

R is a young man with an existential crisis--he is a zombie. He shuffles through an America destroyed by war, social collapse, and the mindless hunger of his undead comrades, but he craves something more than blood and brains. He can speak just a few grunted syllables, but his inner life is deep, full of wonder and longing. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he has dreams.

After experiencing a teenage boy's memories while consuming his brain, R makes an unexpected choice that begins a tense, awkward, and stragely sweet relationship with the victim's human girlfriend. Julie is a blast of color in the otherwise dreary and gray landscape that surrounds R. His decision to protect her will transform not only R, but his fellow Dead, and perhaps their whole lifeless world.

Scary, funny, and surprisingly poignant, Warm Bodies is about being alive, being dead, and the blurry line in between.

Marie's Thoughts: Okay, I cannot lie... I'd never even heard of this book until the movie came out. I LURVED the movie so much I had to then go back and read the book and the book is SO SO SO SO much better. To be inside a zombie's head!!! Are you freaking kidding me? This book was amazing, because while I'm normally all about killing me some undead, I actually found one I wanted to cuddle. *gasp* This book just gave me the feels and it's gone high onto my forever shelf. Issac Marion made me sympathize with a villain, I just loved it.

Those are just a few of my favorites. There are so many more zombie books to read and hopefully one day I'll thin out my ever increasing TBR pile, but if you're like me and have an insatiable appetite for all things zombie, you gotta check these books out. And even if you don't like zombies, do yourself a favor and just sample them. You never know until you try it, right?

Happy reading my little Kingdom faithful!
~Marie :)

Slayde

So, the second cover for Chaos Time is Done. Why am I telling you this? Because I want you, my readers, to know something very important about this series.

It's been brought to my attention that serials are divided into two camps. Love 'em, hate 'em. Chaos Time is a Serial. I'm telling you this so no one feels upset that they weren't warned ahead of time. I'm telling you right here what you can expect with this series...

Time Travel
YA elements
Romance elements
Cliffhangers (YES, the dreaded cliffhanger)
Epic fantasy
Action and adventure
Mystery
Dark Paranormal

But not all in the same book. That's important you should know that. This is a long arcing storyline, but here is where I hope you guys are patient with me. This book is a book I've wanted to write for years. A book where I broke lots of literary rules. A book that allowed me to just write a story, no matter where it led me. This is different than Kingdom or Moments, you should know that. But you should also know that the book is done. However, it's soooooo long that were I to release it all at once I would have felt like I needed to charge 9.99 for it. It's really that long. So rather than do that I divided the book into 35k-40k chunks each. So they're not short serials, they're a meaty length novella similar to my Kingdom books so I'd hope you felt like you were getting a story you could sink your teeth into each time.

I have no plans to drag this book to kingdom come just to make extra money off of you. I'm not like that. So this is me giving you warning so if you guys want to wait until it all comes out, that's up to you. And I'm fine with it. Ultimately I'm here to please my readers, not myself.

That said, here is the cover to book 2 which will release next month!

And below is the teaser to Sable:

Part 1: The Gathering

A Memoir

I am born.

I open innocent eyes and take in the beauty of a world with infinite possibility. I am she. I am the start. And the end. I’m birth and death.

Then I meet him.

I love him.

But he takes too much.

He strips me.

I am naked.

I am nothing.

Nothing but hate and vengeance.

He must die.

I am Phoenix, and he will burn.

Happy reading,
~Marie

Sable

I've got a new series beginning next month, book 1 is called Sable and the series is Chaos Time. I love the artwork... what do you think?

This is the blurb:

When Sable Ray sings, people die. She’s spent most of her life locked away to protect others from her curse, abandoned to an insane asylum and the monster in her own head. Lately, though, she’s been having dreams of another time, another life – one where she’s free. Where her power isn’t a curse, but a blessing. And just when she’s sure things can’t get any weirder, she’s confronted by a stranger with eyes as blue as the hottest flame He swears she’s not crazy – in fact, she’s the key to saving the world.

Wanna know why I love Kingdom?

Because I get to write stuff like this:

The lights danced and twirled through a verdant garden of lush green. Thick carpets of moss climbed up the sides of gnarled and knotty, ancient oaks. A gossimer haze enveloped the forest, combined with the fiery bursts of glimmering luminescence; he knew immediately where his desires had led him.
Jericho was spying on the fairy forest.

Moon's Flower is coming VERY VERY SOON! :D I love how imaginative I can get with fairy tales, the impossible is totally possible. That's why I love my Kingdom Series, things I could never get away with in other books I can here. 50 foot frog anyone? LOL...

Happy reading,
~Marie
